Bienvenue sur le site de l’AATF du Nord Texas!

The American Association of Teachers of French was founded in 1927 to support the work of French teachers at all levels from elementary school to graduate schools and provide resources to promote and sustain the study of French. With nearly 10,000 members and 76 chapters across the US, AATF is the largest national association of French teachers in the world.

The North Texas chapter serves teachers in more than 20 counties including: Archer, Baylor, Bosque, Bowie, Callahan, Camp, Cass, Clay, Collin, Comanche, Cooke, Dallas, Delta, Denton, Eastland, Ellis, Erath, Fannin, Franklin, Grayson, Gregg, Hamilton, Harrison, Henderson, Hill, Hood, Hopkins, Hunt, Jack, Johnson, Kaufman, Lamar, Moarion, Montague, Morris, Navarro, Upshur, Palo Pinto, Panola, Parker, Rains,Red River, Rockwall, Rusk, Shackleford, Stephens, Somervell, Smith, Tarrant, Throckmorton, Titus, Van Zandt, Wichita, Wilbarger, Wise, Wood and Young. Each year, NT AATF organizes two essential events that promote the study of French and give middle and high school students unique opportunities to demonstrate their creativity, proficiency, and passion for French and Francophone cultures with peers across the region. La Journée d’immersion in November invites students in middle school and high school to attend a great variety of fun sessions on language and culture hosted by NT AATF member teachers as well as university students and other volunteers.  These sessions are designed to accommodate the various French proficiency levels of the attendees.

Le festival francophone replaces Fête française and invites all students of French (middle school, high school, and university) to a friendly and fun competition without tests where they can demonstrate how talented they are.  Students can compete in numerous cultural events, receive prizes, and become eligible to apply for a prestigious language acquisition scholarship sponsored by the French Consulate in Houston.

Teachers who would like to bring their students to these events may apply for a travel assistance award.  Details will be available soon about the travel award for Journée d’immersion.

Finally, NT AATF hosts two professional development meetings in October and May.  Exact dates will be announced on this site and on the NT AATF Facebook page.  Guest speakers offer workshops that count for 3-to-4 hours of professional development.
